Fresh ice is commonly used in many business premises. A commercial ice machine produces good quality ice quickly. A malfunctioning ice machine can cause many problems with daily operations in many businesses. Some common problems and troubleshooting of commercial ice machines are as follows:
The Machine Doesn’t Operate
If the ice machine doesn’t turn on, check if the power cord is properly plugged in and the switch is turned on. The power supply to the electrical socket and any potential damage to the power cord should also be verified. Ensure that the damper is upright and is able to swing freely, as holding the damper in downward position will make the ice machine shut off until any obstructions are cleared.
Low Ice Capacity
Ice production is related to the air and water temperature. In case of low ice production, check the water and air temperature. Generally, water and air temperature around the machine should be 50- and 70-degrees Fahrenheit respectively. If the air around the machine is reaching 100 degrees Fahrenheit, then it can damage it also. It is recommended to keep the ice machine near air conditioning for better results.
Ice Quality is Poor
In case of poor ice quality, check the quality of water being used. Poor water quality can cause other potential problems in the ice machine. If there is a water filtration system, it may need replacement. Limescalecan result in poor quality ice; hence it is recommended to clean and sanitize the commercial ice machine.
Incomplete Ice Cubes Being Formed
Check the water level and ensure it is neither too high or too low. Ice formation requires supply of cold water thus ensure that hot water is not being supplied to the machine. Check the water pressure as ideally,it should be 20-80 PSI. The water float valve’s filter screen should be checked. It may require cleaning or the water float valve itself may need to be cleaned. Ensure that the ice machine is kept on an even and flat surface for best results
Leaking Ice Machine
In case of water leakage, the first step is to determine the source of leakage. If the leakage is originating from behind the shut off valve, it is likely coming from water system. Plumber should be called for repairing it immediately. If the leakage is from the front of the ice machine, then it is coming from inside it and technicians should be contacted to fix it. Leaking ice machines should be immediately shut off and the water should be turned off.
